Get to know some brands that are expanding their operations in the state of São Paulo:
The expansion plan for some franchise networks has the interior of São Paulo as its main target. In addition to lower marketing and labor costs, these cities still have a lack of certain products and services, and revenues that are close to those of large urban centers. According to Adir Ribeiro, CEO of Praxis Business, the business potential of the interior of São Paulo has long attracted new entrepreneurs, mainly through franchises.
“The representativeness remains high for several reasons, due to the entrepreneurial culture, industrialization in some regions, the thriving agribusiness, roads and logistics, but mainly due to the consumption potential and acceptance of updated brands and business models,” he explains.
The Quarterly Performance Survey of the sector carried out by the Brazilian Franchising Association (ABF), referring to the second quarter of 2022, determined the distribution of revenue and franchise units by region. Revenue from the Southeast region represented a slight increase in the first half, from 52.57% to 52.90% compared to the same period last year.
Revenue in the Southeast in the second half increased from 52.57% to 52.90% compared to the first half of last year for this year. The same movement occurred in terms of the number of units, which increased from 52.65% to 54.39% in the region. The state of São Paulo is the most representative, with 33.36% of the total units in 2022, so far.

1. Morana
Morana, the largest franchise of women’s accessories in Latin America, is one of the chains that have the interior of São Paulo as a target to expand their base. With about 300 stores distributed throughout Brazil, the franchisor announced that it will open stores in the municipalities of Lins and Itu, still in the second half of 2022.
2. Royal Trudel
Royal Trudel, a franchise in the food sector, is yet another chain that sees a socioeconomic potential in the interior of São Paulo to expand its business. With 55 stores spread across the country, the brand intends to arrive soon in the cities of Taubaté, Sorocaba and Barueri.
3. FarBetter
Far Melhor, a chain of pharmacy franchises, has the largest number of brand stores in the state of São Paulo, there are 138 in total and has expanded to the interior of São Paulo. The company is very interested in smaller cities with between 20,000 and 80,000 inhabitants, as they have a certain lack of some products and services and less competition. The chain will open units this year in the cities of Ourinhos, Birigui, Americana, Indaiatuba, São José do Rio Preto and São Sebastião da Grama.
4. Friends
With revenues of R$50 million in the first half of 2022, Criamigos, a franchise network specializing in the personalization of plush toys, opened 13 units in the first six months of 2022. The forecast is that 10 more will be opened later this year. In terms of expansion, the municipality of Bauru, in the Center-West of São Paulo, is one of the priority targets.
5. Nutty Bavarian
Nutty Bavarian, famous for its glazed chestnuts sold at the chain’s kiosks in shopping malls, airports and large retailers, also plans to open 9 units in the interior of São Paulo, by the end of 2022, either in the traditional kiosk or in the new trailer model. Among the confirmed cities are: Campinas, Ribeirão Preto, Santo André, São Bernardo do Campo, São Roque, Porto Ferreira and Ourinhos.
6. Chicken in the Pot
The Frango no Pote franchise network had a growth of 108% compared to the same period in 2021, and reached revenue of R$37.6 million. By the end of 2022, the expectation is to open 13 more units, with the cities of São Carlos and Itapetininga being chosen, which already have a date set to receive 100% Brazilian fried chicken.
