diplomatic matter
Griner’s arrest comes at a time when diplomatic relations between Russia and the United States are on the ropes due to the war in Ukraine.
Yet the American president Joe Biden assured that the White House will do what it can to help the basketball star.
Yesterday, Biden spoke with the wife of the athlete arrested in Russia, Cherelle Griner.
A statement released by the White House says that Vice President Kamala Harris also participated in the conversations and that the consensus is that the arrest of the American athlete is “unfair” and that it took place under “intolerable” circumstances.
Griner is number 1 star for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).
She was in Russia because she also played for a Russian team when the WNBA seasons ended.
In a letter addressed to the White House, the athlete made an appeal to the president. “Please do your best to get us home.”
