Investment allows scaling the platform to democratize the implementation of the General Data Protection Law (LGPD)
THE DPOnet, a startup that implements and manages in an automated way the process of compliance with the General Data Protection Law (LGPD), announces this Thursday, 29, the raising of R$ 6 million in a seed round. Among the main investors are the accelerator Leavening, family offices and LW Ventures, Locaweb’s Corporate Venture Capital fund.
With the objective of democratizing, automating and simplifying the GDPR compliance journey, DPOnet developed an automated SaaS platform for managing privacy, security and governance of personal data, which is currently used by more than 1,500 companies, and has already certified and trained more than 7,000 users with its methodology.
According to a survey published in August by NIC.br, almost two years after the LGPD came into force, data managers (DPO) are working, directly or indirectly, in only 17% of companies in the country. The Global Digital Trust Insights Survey also estimates that 83% of Brazilian companies plan to expand their investments in this area this year.
“We won our first customer in August 2020 and ended that year with 80 customers. Today, we serve clients in industries, commerce, service providers, public authorities and the third sector. There are more than 70 segments served, from a small e-commerce to a healthcare operator, which handles a large volume of sensitive data”, says Marcelo Martins, co-founder and CRO of the startup.
The resources of this seed round will allow expanding the vertical of the marketplace that offers specialized services for the LGPD journey, such as cyber security.
“Through the automated platform and distance learning training, DPOnet has proven to reduce investments and time for the adequacy and management of data protection and privacy by up to 90%”, says Ricardo Maravalhas, co-founder and CEO of the startup.
According to Ricardo, DPOnet has been achieving its purpose of democratizing the LGPD through education.
“Education transforms the culture of organizations and society. Our courses are distributed in partnership with universities and large companies. This new contribution will expand our operations in this vertical”.
