Small companies face slowdown within the second half

Inflation and interest pressure affect results

Small and medium-sized companies closed the month of July with a slight deceleration after registering a growth of 3.5% in the first half, according to the performance index of the Omie management platform.

The segment grew 0.7% compared to July 2021.

The brake is attributed to inflation and interest pressure, holding back the evolution of small and medium businesses in the country.

The service sector, which concentrates most of the active CNPJs in Brazil, had a retraction of 4.5% compared to July 2021. It was the second consecutive month of decline in the annual comparison.

Industry and agriculture registered increases of 6.4% and 19%, respectively. In commerce, the expansion was 2.7%.

For Joseph Couri, president Simpi (Union of Micro and Small Industry of the State of São Paulo), the data illustrate the financial difficulties that SMEs are experiencing in the post-pandemic.

He says that the federal government needs to find a way to make the money reach the end, with an increase in purchasing power and credit release in banks so that SMEs can breathe and show growth.

“We are having macroeconomic policies for new problems with old methodology. The measures being adopted are more of the same and they need to think outside the box”, says Couri.
