Small businesses generated 76% of jobs in 2022

Micro and medium-sized companies opened 470,520 more jobs than medium and large companies in the first four months of 2022. Services were the highlight.
At micro and small companies (SMEs) are pulling the formal job creation in 2022. Of the 700,590 formal jobs created in Brazil from January to April, 585,560, equivalent to 76% of the total, originated from small businesses.
The conclusion is based on a survey by the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae), based on data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged) of the Ministry of Economy. MSEs opened 470,520 more jobs than medium and large companies in the first four months of 2022.
In April alone, smaller businesses were responsible for opening 84% of formal jobs in the month, with 166,800 out of a total of 196,900 jobs created last month. In the division by sectors of the economy, only small businesses showed a positive balance in job creation in all segments.
The most prominent sector is that of services, with the opening of 93.4 vacancies in micro and small companies, out of a total of 117 thousand positions calculated by Caged. According to Sebrae, the reopening of the economy, after vaccination against covid-19, has driven the recovery of the segment.
The second sector that led the creation of jobs in September was commerce, with 28,420 jobs in micro and small companies, out of a total of 29,260. In third place, comes the industry, with 25.26 thousand jobs generated, against a total of 26.37 thousand.
