Pupil and trainer earn BRL 46 million with backbone rehabilitation franchise

at the faculty of physiotherapy, Dr. Laudelino Risso was interested in spinal treatment when following the classes of his then professor Dr. André Pegas. The two formed an affinity outside the academic environment and in 2005 they started working together at the Pegas clinic.

After eight years working together and sharing many studies and research, the two managed to improve and develop an individualized assessment and treatment method for spinal pathologies.

Today, with more than 86 units installed in Brazil, franchise network Doctor Hernia has already performed more than 280 thousand consultations and fully trained 95.7% of cases attended. In 2021, the network’s revenue was R$ 46 million.

Dr. Laudelino says that this result is due to the ability to train the physical therapist, following a methodology developed based on the most advanced techniques in the world and mainly because of the clinical experience that both have been able to share over the years.

“People are in the habit of thinking that ‘spinal problems’ can only be resolved with surgery. Our method shows the opposite, that it is possible to achieve good results with physical therapy. Each case that enters our clinics is treated individually and our treatment method is only determined after evaluating the exams and the real situation of each patient”, says Dr. Andrew.

Dr. André explains that the rehabilitation of herniated disccan be completed in up to three months of treatment, which includes mechanical adjustment, disc treatment, and muscle strengthening.

“Once the spine is stabilized, the patient can do practically everything they used to do before. Most have quality of life again,” he says.

Doctor Hernia offers 11 types of services different just for the column, which can vary between eight and twenty-four sessions. The price of treatments varies between R$ 1 thousand and R$ 3 thousand.

In 2021, the franchisor grew 150%, to R$ 2.5 million — ninth largest expansion in the 2 to 5 million category of EXAME’s Business in Expansion Ranking.

To open a Doctor Hernia unit, the initial investment is R$ 130 thousand. The amount includes the franchise fee, training, support and the purchase of equipment, which will be used as a loan until the end of the contract. The estimated payback period is up to nine months, but there have been cases of reaching business stability in four months.
