Primary meals basket worth drops in August in 16 of the 17 capitals surveyed by Dieese

The value of the basic food basket fell in August in 16 of the 17 capitals analyzed monthly by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese), in comparison with July.
The most expressive fall occurred in Recife (-3%), followed by Fortaleza (-2.26%), Belo Horizonte (-2.13%) and Brasília (-2.08%). Belém was the only capital where the price of the basket rose (+0.27%).
In comparison with August 2021, however, there was a rise in all capitals surveyed. The biggest change was found in Recife, which had the biggest monthly drop (+21.71%); the lowest was in Porto Alegre (+12.55%).
The most expensive basket in Brazil is that of São Paulo (R$749.78), followed by Porto Alegre (R$748.06), Florianópolis (R$746.21) and Rio de Janeiro (R$717.82). ). The cheapest basket is in Aracaju (R$ 539.57).
Based on the most expensive basic food basket in Brazil (São Paulo), Dieese calculated that the ideal minimum wage should be R$ 6,298.91 to cover the expenses of a worker and his family with food, housing, health, education , clothing, hygiene, transport, leisure and social security.
This amount is equivalent to 5.2 times the current minimum wage in the country (R$ 1,212).
