Petrobras announced a new reduction in the price of diesel for distributors. Starting tomorrow, the state-owned company will sell the fuel to distributors for R$ 5.19 a liter, R$ 0.22 less than the value practiced today.
According to Petrobras, considering the mandatory mixture of 90% diesel A and 10% biodiesel for the sale of fuel sold at service stations, the price for the final consumer will increase from R$ 4.87, on average, to R$ 4.67 for each liter sold at the pump. The values of gasoline and alcohol did not decrease.
“This reduction follows the evolution of reference prices, which stabilized at a lower level for diesel”, says the company’s statement. “And it is consistent with Petrobras’ pricing practice, which seeks to balance its prices with the global market, but without passing on to domestic prices the conjunctural volatility of international quotations and the exchange rate.”
A week ago, Petrobras had already announced a reduction of R$ 0.20 in the liter of diesel, which went from R$ 5.61 to R$ 5.41. At the time, the justification for the drop in price was the same used this time.
According to the Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers (Abicom), there would be room for a price drop of R$ 0.60 for fuel, since the average domestic price of diesel is 13% above the international market.
The high price of fuel is one of the main problems faced by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who seeks re-election in October. Trying to resolve the issue, he has already changed the command of Petrobras several times.
The last change took place at the end of June, when Caio Paes de Andrade, the fourth president of the company in the last 3 and a half years, took over.
