To find out which are the best-rated films and series in a foreign language, Preply, an online platform that connects native-speaking students and tutors in more than 50 languages, surveyed the most popular productions on IMDb.

The Brazilian highlight was the film God’s citywhich appears in the second position of the most watched in the world, behind only The Untouchables, which ranks first. In third place is the film The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulaindemonstrating that two of the three most watched foreign language films are of French origin and language.

According to Daniele Saccardi, campaign manager at Preply, having a national film in the Top 3 shows how local film production is a market that should be viewed with good eyes, both by the public and investors. “Besides, we’re always discovering something and when we watch something new, we can learn another language, for example, and that’s when we can expand our knowledge”, he says.

“Another benefit of consuming this type of content is discovering the context of the words, which many times can have different meanings, depending on their daily use. Repetition also helps to establish more vocabulary, increasing the number of words you know”, he adds.

Far beyond American blockbusters

In addition to feature films, Preply has selected successful foreign series, such as the Spanish production La Casa de Papel, which ranked first in the company’s survey. The story of the eight thieves who broke into Spain’s Mint with the intention of carrying out the biggest robbery in history was watched by more than 69 million viewers in the four weeks after the premiere of its fifth season, according to data from the streaming platform Netflix. , beating its own record, which was 65 million in the same period, but in the fourth season.
