Meta closes deal to finish information leak case with Cambridge Analytica

Case concerns access, without express authorization, of Facebook user data by Cambridge Analytica in 2018

Meta, which owns Facebook, has reached an agreement to settle a lawsuit brought by users of the platform over the company’s practices in the case of data sharing with Cambridge Analytica, according to court filings accessed on Friday, 26. .

The two parties to the case filed a joint notice in which they stated that they had “in principle reached an agreement” and were asking for a period of 60 days to deliver it in writing to the court. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Bloomberg News reported on Friday that notification of the settlement came before the company’s chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, had to spend hours questioning by lawyers representing users. Meta did not respond to MarketWatch’s request for comment.

The case concerns Cambridge Analytica’s unauthorized access to Facebook user data in 2018.
