Study states that Portuguese capital would accumulate debt of 6,2 thousand reais per month to the average citizen due to the cost of living
It is true that Lisbon was the most sought after international destination by Brazilians in 2021. Portuguese capital was also considered the third most expensive city in the worldaccording to a study carried out by the British insurance company CIA Landlords: adding up the rent, salary and cost of living, the balance was negative by 1,149 euros (equivalent to around 6,200 reais).
This calculation takes into account the prices charged for apartments in the central region of the city and the average salary of workers – which, in the case of Lisbon, is 1,625 euros for a three-bedroom option, while the remuneration is valued at 1,037 euros. The cost of living was also subtracted from 561 euros. But education, which would raise €500 per child, was left out.
On the other hand, the least expensive cities to live in were indicated and, in this list, seven from the United Kingdom, one from Australia, one from the United States and one from Switzerland – whose capital, Bern, is listed as the cheapest place to live, with a positive balance of 1,406 euros (equivalent to 7,600 reais). No Brazilian city appeared in the ranking of the most economical. See the lists:
