JBS closes US plant protein operation

The shutdown affects 121 workers in Colorado, according to the state’s Department of Labor.

JBS announced that it is ending its plant-based protein business in United States, Planterra, three years after its launch. The world’s biggest meat processor said it intends to focus efforts on its plant-based products operations in Brazil and Europe, which are gaining market share.

Planterra manufactures a line of products under the Ozo brand.

The shutdown affects 121 workers in Colorado, according to the state’s Department of Labor.

JBS said it is in talks with Planterra workers to try to relocate them to other company units.
