Insurance is among the sectors that most carried out mergers and acquisitions transactions in the country in the first quarter of 2022. There were 553 merger or acquisition operations in the country, against 375 negotiated in the first three months of 2021. The number rose 47.4% in the first quarter this year, compared to the same period last year, according to a survey carried out by KPMG, which lists 43 sectors of the Brazilian economy.

Internet companies continue to lead with 242, followed by information technology with 83 and service providers with 35. The other segments that stood out were financial institutions with 26, telecommunications and media with 20, education with 19, hospitals and clinics with 16 , insurance with 13 and transport with 12.

The largest in the insurance sector announced this year was the purchase of SulAmérica by Rede D’Or, valued at R$ 15 billion. As for the insurance quarter of the year, the sector is counting on the acquisition of part of the Brazilian operations of the Japanese Sompo by the German HDI, announced on May 24th. The amount was not revealed, but sources say it will be above R$ 1 billion.
