Industrial manufacturing drops 0.4% in June in comparison with Could, reveals IBGE

THE industrial production fell 0.4% in June compared to May, in the seasonally adjusted series, informed this Tuesday, 2, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The result was worse than the median (-0.3%) of analyst estimates captured by Projections Broadcast, which ranged from a 0.7% drop to a 0.7% advance.

As of June 2021, production fell 0.5%. On this basis of comparison, without adjustment, estimates ranged from a decrease of 1.0% to an increase of 3.8%, with a median decrease of 0.3%.

Year to date, the industry fell by 2.2%. In the 12-month period, there was a fall of 2.8%. In the second quarter, there was a rise of 0.9% in comparison with the first three months of the year, informed André Macedo, manager of the IBGE’s Industry Coordination. According to the researcher, it was third quarter followed by high, in comparison with the immediately previous periods. The Industry Quarterly Moving Average index registered zero change in June.

The production of the capital goods industry shrank 1.5% in June compared to May, according to the IBGE. In comparison with June 2021, the indicator increased by 0.2%. The data are part of the Monthly Industrial Survey – Physical Production (PIM-PF).

In relation to consumer goods, production increased by 0.4% from May to June. In comparison with June 2021, there was an increase of 1.5%. In the category of durable consumer goods, production jumped 6.4% in June compared to May. Compared to June 2021, there was an increase of 2.3%. Among semi-durables and non-durables, there was a drop of 0.7% in production in June compared to May. Compared to June 2021, production rose 1.3%.

For intermediate goods, the IBGE reported that production fell by 0.8% in June compared to May. Compared to June 2021, there was a drop of 1.8%.
