Hacker attack cost Americanas BRL 1 billion

Americanas’ quarterly balance sheet showed the cost of the hacker attack suffered by the company in February, when systems crashed for almost five days and it was not possible to make purchases on e-commerce. The retailer lost R$ 923 million in sales due to the stoppage of its websites and applications. The number appears in the group’s results report under the line “security incident (loss of sale)”.

The value is above projections from consultants who made estimates based on the company’s past sales, while Americanas has been growing this year at a faster rate.

In a conference call with analysts this early afternoon, the company mentioned the issue, referring to the disclosure of the data in its balance sheet, and also stated that, after the resumption of operation of websites and apps, the flow of buyers grew rapidly, signaling the channels, director Raoni Lapagesse said in a conference call with analysts.
