GM Briefly Suspends Twitter Promoting After Musk Acquisition
The group is a direct competitor to Tesla, Elon Musk’s electric vehicle maker.
The American vehicle manufacturer General Motors informed this Friday, 28th, that it temporarily suspended its advertising in the twitterbecoming the first major advertiser to assess its presence on the platform, after it was acquired by Elon Musk.
“We spoke with Twitter to understand the direction the platform will take under its new owner,” the group said in a message transmitted to AFP. “As is normal during a major change to a media platform, we have temporarily suspended our paid advertising,” the company added.
The group is a direct competitor to Tesla, the electric vehicle maker that Musk directs. Twitter’s new owner has presented himself as a fervent defender of free speech, raising fears of a resurgence of hate speech or misinformation among supporters of greater control over content.
Musk tried to reassure advertisers by saying on Thursday that he wants to allow all opinions without Twitter becoming a “hellish” network where everything is allowed, for which he announced a “content moderation board with very diverse points of view” .
