At a press conference, Tedros explained that last week the number of coronavirus cases dropped to the lowest level since March 2020.
The director general of World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said this Wednesday, 14, that the end of the pandemic “is in sight”. He called, however, for governments to accelerate actions to prevent the opportunity to control Covid-19 from being lost.
At a press conference, Tedros explained that last week the number of coronavirus cases dropped to the lowest level since March 2020.
“We have never been in a better position to end the pandemic,” said the WHO director-general.
Tedros compared the current situation to the final stretch of a marathon. “We can see the finish line. We are in a winning position. But now is the worst time to stop running.”
The WHO director urged countries to vaccinate the entire population at greater risk associated with the disease and to maintain virus testing and sequencing strategies.
