EU announces purchase of 110,000 doses of monkeypox vaccine

According to EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, the first deliveries should take place from the end of June.

THE European Union informed that it concludes this Tuesday a contract to buy “about 110,000 doses” of monkeypox vaccine. The information was released by EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, according to which the first deliveries should take place from the end of June.

Stella Kyriakides highlighted that this is the first time that EU funds are used to purchase immunizations. For her, the acquisition is also an example of the bloc’s potential rapid response to health threats.

Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) counted more than 1,000 cases of monkeypox in 29 countries where the disease is not endemic.

The disease has already been registered in Brazil, but experts warn that it should not cause the same damage as covid-19.
