Elon Musk in Brazil: How much does it cost and how to use Starlink’s internet

In Brazil, in addition to the Amazon, service coverage involves part of Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in addition to some areas of Minas Gerais

Elon Musk is in Brazil to promote your satellite internet company starlink. Along with government officials and President Jair Bolsonaro himself, the billionaire announced the extension of signal coverage to the northern region of the country, with a focus on taking internet to remote areas and monitoring the Amazon.

Before that date, it was already possible to connect to the service. However, there is a long and expensive way to enjoy Starlink’s network.

Thus, if a Brazilian is interested, he will need to live specifically in the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, in addition to a few areas of Minas Gerais.

According to the Starlink website, the interested party will have to pay R$ 3,365 for the purchase and shipment of the equipment, excluding taxes. And the monthly fee for the service will be R$ 530. After receiving the antenna, it will be necessary to make a kind of tuning, similar to the procedure done in satellite TV dishes and satellite subscription TV.

In this case, the user installs the equipment, and leaves it for at least 30 minutes looking for the signal among Starlink’s carousel of 4,000 satellites. Then, if all goes well, a network is established with speeds between 100MB and 500MB.

In any case, the Starlink network focuses on regions that are not well served by traditional telecommunications services, such as rural areas or areas far from large urban centers. So, not every Brazilian is a potential Starlink customer.
