Ministry of Economy decides in favor of including state-owned company in the program to carry out studies on privatization, the first step towards the sale of public companies

THE Petrobras was qualified this Thursday, the 2nd, to carry out studies related to its privatization, during a meeting held by the Council of the Investment Partnership Program (PPI), of the Ministry of Economy, which analyzes privatization projects. “Now, it is up to President Jair Bolsonaro to issue a decree officializing the request to carry out studies on the privatization of Petrobras,” said Bruno Westin Leal, secretary of the PPI.

The realization of studies of economic modeling of privatizations, carried out by the BNDES, represents the first step towards the sale of public companies. In the case of Petrobras, however, congressional approval is also required for privatization, as well as in relation to Mail (The sale of the state-owned company received a green light from the Chamber last year, but has not been voted on by the Senate until today).

The capitalization of electrobras, in turn, already has a date set. The initial offering of shares should take place on the 13th on B3. The offer includes the issuance of 627.67 million common shares (ELET3) and the sale of 69.8 million shares currently held by BNDESPar. The operation can move about R$ 30 billion. THE pricing is scheduled for the 9th.
