Of the total of four benefits, two end this month and two have a reduction in value.
The year 2022 was marked by the release of social benefits for Brazilians, with the aim of transferring income to people in a situation of social vulnerability or to mitigate the effects of the crisis. On the list are the ‘Auxílio Brasil ‘vitaminado’, the double gas allowance, and aid for truck drivers and taxi drivers.
These benefits were all released in an election year by the government of Jair Bolsonaro, who was running for re-election. And they all end or will have their value reduced at the end of this month.
See below the status of each benefit and what happens in 2023.
Brazil Aid
How are you doing
When it replaced Bolsa Família at the end of last year, Auxílio Brasil inherited a queue of 3 million families, which ended up included in January of this year by the federal government. But, with the increase in poverty in the country, the queue grew again, reaching almost 3 million families again in April, according to a survey by the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM).
As the number of families registered in the Cadastro Único (CadÚnico) increased, the government was unable to cope with the so-called repressed demand. In August, the minimum installment amount for all families increased from R$400 to R$600. And, in October, the government announced that it had once again zeroed out the queue of families waiting for the benefit.
All of this was possible after the approval of the Kamikaze PEC, a social package with electoral objectives that made resources available both for Auxílio Brasil and for the implementation of walker and taxi driver aid, in addition to increasing the value of the gas aid (read more below).
According to the Ministry of Citizenship, around 21.6 million families will receive the benefit in December, with an average value of R$ 607.14.
how is it
The future government is trying to approve the new PEC to maintain the R$600 benefit and pay an additional R$150 per child up to 6 years of age.
On Wednesday (21), the text that expands the spending ceiling to release the budget and continue to pay the amount of R$ 600 for the benefit – which will once again be called Bolsa Família – was enacted by Congress.
The approved PEC extends the spending ceiling for 1 year. That is, during this period, this value is guaranteed. In addition, an additional R$ 150 will be granted per family with a child up to 6 years old.
gas allowance
How are you doing
The gas allowance began to be paid at the beginning of this year, transferring half of the average value of the 13 kg gas cylinder. The government used the base of beneficiaries of the Cadastro Único and BPC to include the families covered.
In August of this year, the government began to pay the amount equivalent to 100% of the cylinder – increase that was only possible due to the approval of the Kamikaze PEC.
December is the last month in which the benefit will have the full value of a canister, which was paid in August, October and December installments, as the aid is bimonthly.
This month, according to the Ministry of Citizenship, around 5.9 million families were awarded R$112. However, when it was announced, the program’s objective was to serve up to 19 million families.
how is it
Next year, the benefit will once again be worth half the average price of the cylinder. This amount was guaranteed through the approval of the PEC that increases the spending ceiling for one year.
The program lasts for 5 years. Thus, as the payment will be every two months, the forecast is that 30 installments will be paid.
truck driver assistance
How are you doing
Truck driver aid began to be paid in August to around 400,000 truck drivers. There were six installments of R$ 1 thousand paid until this month. This benefit was also part of the pre-election social package created by PEC Kamikaze.
The program was launched with the aim of mitigating the impact of higher fuel prices on drivers. But surveys shown in reports from the g1 point out that the price of diesel oil had a drop or price stability both at refineries and at service stations.
The drop came in the wake of legislation that limits the rates of the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Products (ICMS) that apply to items considered essential – such as fuel, natural gas, electricity, communications and public transport. Another factor that contributed to the decline was the drop in fuel prices on the international market.
how is it
There is no forecast for resuming the benefit next year.

Taxi driver assistance
Taxi assistance also began to be paid in August to around 300,000 taxi drivers registered with city halls and holders of concessions, permits, licenses or authorizations issued by municipal or district public authorities. There were six installments of R$ 1 thousand paid until this month.
Municipalities were responsible for forwarding the list of registered taxi drivers to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
As in the case of truck drivers, the program was launched with the aim of mitigating the impact of higher fuel prices on drivers. But surveys shown in reports by the g1point out that the price of gasoline, for example, has had successive drops both at refineries and at service stations.
how is it
There is no forecast for resuming the benefit next year.
